Classification and Uses of Plywood Board Sheet Panel
Plywood board is a type of engineered wood product made by hot-pressing an odd number of layers of veneer (usually thin wood) together with adhesive. The fibers of adjacent layers are perpendicular to each other, resulting in advantages such as minimal deformation, high strength, and high utilization rate.
Based on different dimensions such as application, water resistance, structure, and environmental protection level, plywood can be classified into the following categories:
I. Classification of Plywood Board by Application
– Ordinary Plywood Board: Used for general purposes such as furniture, interior decoration, and packaging.
– Specialty Plywood Board: Includes structural plywood, flame-retardant plywood, and composite plywood, used for special projects or high-requirement scenarios.
II. Classification of Plywood Sheet by Water Resistance (according to standards such as GB/T 9846-2015)
– Class I Plywood Sheet (Weather-resistant/Boiling Water-resistant): Can withstand boiling or steam treatment, suitable for outdoor use, shipbuilding, aviation, concrete formwork, etc.
– Class II Plywood Sheet (Water-resistant): Can be immersed in cold water or short-term hot water, used for vehicle and ship interiors, furniture, etc. – Class III (Moisture-resistant): Suitable for normal indoor use only, used in ordinary furniture, packaging, etc.
– Class IV Plywood Sheet (Not moisture-resistant): Suitable for dry indoor environments only, such as tea boxes, general packaging.
III. Plywood Panel Classification by Environmental Protection Level (Based on GB/T 39600-2021)
– ENF Grade Plywood Panel (Formaldehyde-free): Formaldehyde emission ≤ 0.025 mg/m³, the highest environmental protection standard in my country.
– E0 Grade Plywood Panel : Formaldehyde emission ≤ 0.05 mg/m³.
– E1 Grade Plywood Panel: Formaldehyde emission ≤ 0.124 mg/m³ (old national standard was ≤ 1.5 mg/L).
IV. Plywood Boards Classification by Tree Species
– Broadleaf Plywood Boards: Such as eucalyptus, poplar, birch, etc., commonly used for decoration and furniture.
– Coniferous Plywood Boards: Such as pine, fir, etc., mostly used for construction formwork and packaging.
V. Plywood Sheets Classification by Structure and Core Material
– Ordinary Plywood Sheets: All-veneer laminated, such as three-ply, five-ply, etc.
– Blockboard (Wood Core Plywood): Solid wood strips or square timber as the core, with a veneer surface; lightweight, sound-absorbing, and heat-insulating.
– Composite Plywood Sheets: The core layer uses non-wood materials such as particleboard or fiberboard, and the surface layer is veneer; log utilization can reach over 80%.
VI. Main Uses of Plywood Panels
– Construction Plywood Panels: Concrete formwork, wall cladding, floor slabs, roof slabs (especially structural plywood).
– Furniture Manufacturing: Cabinets, tabletops, partitions, etc. (commonly uses ENF/E0 grade multi-layer boards).
– Transportation: Truck beds, ship beds, container floors (requiring high strength and weather resistance).
– Packaging Materials: Export wooden crates, heavy-duty packaging boxes (commonly poplar and pine plywood). – High-precision applications: high-speed rail interiors, electromagnetic shielding panels, aerospace components (high-end special plywood).
