Description

Film Faced Plywood is a board consisting of two or more layers of plywood covered with a surface coating of high-pressure wear-resistant materials.

Features of Film Faced Plywood:

Film Faced Plywood (often referring to film-coated plywood for construction) is a type of engineered wood panel with a waterproof membrane (such as black/brown PVC or phenolic resin impregnated paper) hot-pressed onto the surface of plywood. Its core features focus on high strength, water resistance, and reusability, primarily used for concrete formwork.

1. Smooth and flat surface, excellent demolding: The film-coated layer of Film Faced Plywood forms a dense and smooth interface, resulting in a high degree of surface smoothness after concrete pouring, achieving a “fair-faced concrete” effect without the need for secondary plastering. Demolding is also easy and does not stick to mortar.

2. Water and moisture resistance, dimensional stability: Film Faced Plywood uses phenolic resin (WBP glue) or melamine-modified urea-formaldehyde glue applied layer by layer. The film layer further blocks moisture. It does not delaminate after boiling in water for 24 hours, making it suitable for humid environments and multiple reuses (typically ≥10 times, high-quality products can reach 30–40 times).

3. High strength, bending and wear resistance: The crisscrossing odd-layer veneer structure (commonly 5-11 layers) combined with a film coating enhances surface hardness, resulting in high static bending strength, impact resistance, wear resistance, and resistance to delamination and cracking.

4. Convenient construction and good workability: Film-faced plywood is lightweight (approximately 50kg/m² for 18mm boards) and large in size (standard 1220×2440mm), allowing for sawing, drilling, and nailing, and is suitable for irregularly shaped formwork; it retains good machinability even after coating.

5. Excellent corrosion resistance and weather resistance: The film coating and phenolic adhesive system make it resistant to dilute acids and alkalis, insect-proof, and maintain its shape within a temperature range of -20℃ to +60℃, making it suitable for bridges, high-rise buildings, tunnels, and other projects.

6. Environmentally friendly and economical: Edges and scraps are recyclable, reducing wood waste; high turnover reduces the cost per use, but this is not applicable to decorative film-faced aluminum composite panels (the latter have an aluminum alloy substrate and belong to a different category).

Applications of Film-Faceted Plywood:

Film-faced plywood is primarily used for formwork in building concrete construction, combining high strength, waterproofing, wear resistance, and reusability. It is also used for temporary flooring, storage mats, lightweight furniture, and industrial packaging or decorative base layers in damp environments.

1. Building Structural Construction: The core application of film-faced plywood is as formwork for concrete pouring of beams, columns, walls, and floor slabs. The surface is coated with a phenolic resin film or melamine film, achieving smooth demolding, preventing grout leakage, and allowing for reuse (typically more than 10 times).

2. Industrial and Temporary Projects: Such as scaffolding mats, warehouse floors, and transport vehicle linings, utilizing its bending strength, wear resistance, and moisture resistance.

3. Lightweight Furniture and Decorative Base Layers: Some high-density film-faced plywood is used for cabinet back panels, movable partitions, or as base material in damp areas (such as bathrooms), but it is not a high-end decorative material (distinct from PVC-coated decorative panels).

4. Special scenarios: Anti-slip film-coated plywood are used for construction access roads and scaffolding steps; some black/brown film-coated panels are used for bridges, tunnels and other projects with high requirements for demolding.
